The phone rings again. This one you have to take. Dad's had another fall and you're stretched thin between packing lunches and sports pickup. You're researching aged care homes during your lunch break. You're filled in calls from doctors while you're in meetings. And you are trying to keep your own life from falling apart. Yep. You're the family organiser, you're the crisis manager, medical coordinator and emotional support system. You're the one everyone calls when things go wrong. You're in your agehood and it's time that we talked about it. Agehood is the podcast that finally says what we're all thinking but rarely say out loud. I'm Melissa Reeder, CEO of Violet and host of Agehood, and in these conversations you'll hear some intimate stories about what looms and so large for so many, what it really takes to care for those we love. And yes, we'll go there. We'll talk about death and dying and loss.

You'll hear from trusted voices, beloved broadcasters, respected experts all round, great humans who are here really to share their stories.

And give us all some guidance along the way.

Preemptively, I'd say to you, get ready to forgive yourself. You will not do it perfectly.

So the grief is that intense, almost like wave of feeling that we get of sorrow and heartache. It might be anger, it could be rage, it could be a whole host of feelings.

Somehow there's a kind of magical thinking that if I don't talk about it, maybe I can avoid it. Or perhaps it's the other way around. If I do talk about it, it will happen. I might invite it into the room.

This is not about having all the answers. It's about asking the right questions and knowing that you are not alone. Because life's tomorrows are inevitable and avoiding these conversations just won't make them go away. Agehood is coming soon to a podcast app near you.
